Made with tangy apple cider vinegar and a hit of caramel-like sweetness from maple syrup, a switchel is the hippie-funk sister to lemonade.
It's unique and punchy blend of ingredients may be ancient, but it's benefits in hydration, detoxification and electrolyte-boosting are needed more than ever.
Our take on the switchel uses a potently-steeped cup of 'Reboot' tea as the base for added cleansing benefits, but feel free to use plain water or whatever you have on hand in a pinch.
Detox Switchel - Recipe Makes 3 cups (2 servings)
- 3 cups of water
- 2 tbsp 'Reboot' herbal tea
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated finely or chopped
- 1 tbsp maple syrup (or more to taste)
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar.
- lemon wedges, for garnish (optional)
Combine Reboot tea and fresh ginger in 1 cup of boiling water and let steep for 1 hour to overnight. Strain to remove tea leaves and ginger. Dilute with 2 cups of cold water and add the maple syrup and apple cider vinegar. Stir to combine. Serve with ice cubes and lemon wedges.
